So here we have one of the Curve Maquette's that I have been working on for some time, this is my fav of the bunch no title yet, and you are looking from top to bottom center, left and right shots of this piece. It is about 2' x 3' x 1' , oil and mop marker on wood form in a Chicago Barrier Style.

So I have been a Little busy, but news of note Number 1 the Art billboards over the Missouri Bank in the Kansas City CrossRoads art district, I recently designed two of these and they face to the east they will be up for a about 4 months (to view click here), Number 2 I was asked to put some work up in the H&R Block HQ Lobby which will be on display for the month of Sept., Number 3 the studio at the Town Pavilion building is going very nicely for me, and I hope to be asking people to do studio visits in the next month, Number 3 we (michelle and myself) have been trying to bust some ass on the living space of our building the good news is that 3/4 of the electrical is finished and in the box so we have light up stairs woo hoo, New/first ever intern is making some good stuff for me as well Her name is K-Dub. Should be on the verge of vinyl cutter/plotter time in the next month super stoked. Well thats all folks in joy your day thanks for stopping by.

I don't know you all tell me. Be on the look out for news coming about the building, and my studio. Summer has been a hand full so far and I feel I could use a break from KC (not going to happen). New studio picks coming soon, and the vinyl cutter/plotter will be on the way as well. I can't wait to start making some exciting new patterns. And I have learned what it is I would like to do as far as the curves go.

Well to start things off, I found out this past Friday that I will be receiving a studio space with the UCP here in KC (its a 1 year studio residency). Then today I got to go with Misha Kligman to critique his Drawing II classes at MWSU. I thought it went well. I always hope my feedback helps a younger artist to move forward as opposed to backward. Then this evening as I check my e-mail I found out that I received the Inspiration Grant that I applied for, which will lead me to the purchase of a vinyl cutter (madlafstickers). And I also learned which of the spaces within the UCP that I will be working in (Town Pavilion), which is where Phil (Sike) Shafer has his studio and since we are wanting to make crazy co-labs this summer that seems perfect for us. This summer is going to be crazy so much to do, & I really need a hair cut right now, its kind of floppy.

So since the first of the year I have been behind on this here blog. Well its been a long winter, of working on the new living and studio space that's no where close to being finished but progress has happened. I have applied to some calls for artists, a grant, and a studio space since this new one that we are rehabbing is going to be awhile before it gets finished. So if you know of any calls that might be of interest to me let me know(especially the west coast). And I am going to try to be more diligent on writing on this thing even when I don't have any pics. Also had a show with Nick Nihira at Three Rivers College this past Feb. went down and helped hang the show and did a little lecture about my work and our Met Me in the Middle project which I would like to do again but may have to wait till next year(possible in another state). It was great to get out of town and always a great time to hang with Nick.

Tompkins Projects West !

So if your in LA for the art fair season there head over to Dan Graham for the opening of Tompkins Projects West its an awesome group show of small works on paper that I am participating in. First time my work will be shown in LA, I'm super stoked on this opportunity, only wish I could be there for the opening my self . Which is this Thursday January 20th from 6 pm to 9 pm. Tompkins Projects is taking over Dan Graham during LA's art fair season. The show will feature prints, drawings and paintings from artists from across the United States. so I know I have been way behind on this blog right. So here goes finished the KC artist inc class/workshop feel really good with what I learned there and know to start to apply it.

Building remodel in full tilt, getting a new furnace and a/c soon, along with a new roof, hoping for no new surprises. knock on wood ha ha ha ha ha. The top image is a finished piece, and the bottom is a work in progress still (look through old post to see if you can spot it).

I Have Returned !

So the Meet Me in the Middle project/trip has ended. It was a great time had by all even with the ever encroaching raccoons (they seem to like non-dairy creamer), 4 am wind storms, the one all day thunder storm, flies(tons of flies), one broken fishing pole, small crappie and ugly drum. Ten awesome drawing/paintings were made, lots of photos, a video that's getting edited, and a tinker toy Gatling style gun. I will post some pic's soon. I feel like I just created my very own residency with a friend that was just for us it was a lot of fun and I just might have to do it again in the future. Camping and making art just seem to go hand in hand, and there was still plenty of time to relax, hang out, play catch (teach someone how to throw a knuckle ball) ha ha, shoot the shit, nap, laugh at bad jokes and just sit around the good old camp fire. I would like to thank the people who helped make this happen, first my partner in crime on the trip Nick Nihira for agreeing to do this craziness, second my wife Michelle Dreher for letting me do this no matter the cost, third Nick's wife Amanda for letting him go, and fourth Scott Boyd for letting us use his boat because no fish would have be caught with out it. I will also be posting where all of this took place all the way down to the camp site #.

ok so this 1st image is of one of the new mini-curves that I am making at the stage of waiting to be sanded and prepped for paint

Since I am trying something new I used 2 types of plywood to see how each would hold the curve

So these bad little boys or girls are going to hang on the wall this setup is pretty standard but later this summer some should start to rotate and hang at different angles against the wall

The start of some new Curves

So I have started to make some new curved stucture pieces. Here are some photos of half a quarter pipe approximate size of the half is 34" x 48"x 24". These are going to be structurally based/made as if they are skateable surfaces. I'm also scaling them down for now in hopes of making much larger ones in the future.

Just some paintings that I have been working on this winter. I think they are all over the place (each piece is very different from the others). I hope to have them finished (feeling more like a group) by early spring. Some warmer weather would help with paint dry time so thats what I'm hoping for, sick of this cold and snow.
